A long time ago in a country far far away By Hilary Albutt of IncredibleSoftwareSolutions.com A long long time ago in a country far far away (ahem Africa) I became a motor mechanic/engineer.I went through various test and feats of endurance as an apprentice in those times when 'just a girl' could not be anything but 'barefoot and preggy, in the kitchen'. I did the tasks set before me, I became strong and quick. I planned and plotted and scrimped and saved for three score minus 24 (seven years) and then started a partnership with Nicky Thorp. It was interesting working with Nicky, for through him I learned the secrets of the wizardry of 'the books' and 'the stock take' and various other nefarious skills. Through my own efforts I learned about people and the things that I needed to do to survive. I grew my company in the most ethical way I knew how. Even giving a father who had an old BMW a free set of brake pads because he needed to take his children to school. Now,many years later I have been through even more tribulations.One of them was when I was disabled due to a fellow managers incompetence. What had been my hobby and fun for many years (girls could not do programming as that was a man's job , ahem when did that ever stop me?)I started to do a more serious task of programming for a living. This time it was from the bed I had to live in 24/7/365. Now I am out of that and I am mobile again and Nicky Thorp is on the horizon again. This time I can be the teacher as I have now learned new exciting ways that can help in the looming economic situation. New ways to teach the new younger staff and the older dog some new tricks to increase profits and maximise customer retention.
